The AFCC℠ is a self-study program and students set their own pace of learning for the program.  Each of the two modules of the AFCC℠ program is similar  to a one-semester college or university course.  The average time to complete a module is approximately 45 hours.  

There are two study guides included in the course materials. Course Content

The Accredited Financial Counsellor Canada Program has two components, Personal Finance and Counselling Skills.  Both of these course components are required to earn the AFCC designation.

Program content is divided into two components: Knowledge and Skills.  

The Knowledge component includes the following:

  Basic personal finance 
  Credit use
  Bankruptcy and insolvency
  Legislation and court process
  Credit and collections industry
  Credit reporting
  Consumer Issues
  Government and community resources

The Skills component of the Program covers these main areas:

  Counselling
  Client and creditor relations
  Negotiation
  Advocacy
  Communications
  Case management
  Organization and time management
OACCS is the exclusive licensee in Canada of the Accredited Financial Counsellor Canada℠ certification program.
